Diagnosis For HSDD/ISD
Male hypoactive sexual desire disorder is associated with “persistently or recurrently deficient (or absent) sexual/erotic thoughts or fantasies and desire for sexual activity", based on the judgment of a licensed clinician.
An HSDD diagnosis should also take into consideration the patient’s age and other cultural factors.
In women, HSDD is officially recognized as female sexual interest/arousal disorder. Defined as a "lack of, or significantly reduced, sexual interest/arousal", it is typically accompanied by at least three of the following symptoms:
Symptoms of HSDD for men and women must persist for at least six months, be shown to cause “clinically significant distress” to the patient(s), and not be better explained by a separate medical condition or illness. This is one of the many reasons why it is important to take a holistic approach to addressing and treating HSDD/ISD.

- Little or no genital/non-genital sensations in majority of sexual experiences
